Nationals Sign Pablo Sandoval
The Nationals made their first major free agent signing, adding third baseman Pablo Sandoval on a three year contract worth just over fifteen million dollars. After failed pursuit of several high ticket free agents, including Troy Tulowitzki, Dee Gordon, and Steven Vogt, the Nationals found a match with Sandoval. He is coming off a mediocre season, this could possibly be attributed to a thirty point drop in BABIP. The Nationals will start Sandoval at third base, and kick off a team that hopes to bring a winning sports culture to the capital of the United States. With the addition of Sandoval, the Nationals payroll stands at five million. They still have a total of one hundred and twenty million dollars to spend on rounding out a very competitive roster. The team also holds the second overall selection in the minor league player draft. It seems likely that the team will select Byron Buxton to contribute immediately as the team's primary centerfielder, although it is possible that this could change leading up to the draft. The team continues to pursue free agents, both stars and role players. It is plausible to believe that another free agent could sign within the next twenty four hours. The word is that the team is targeting an outfielder and a starting pitcher. Stay tuned!
