Day 62: I'm not even sure if I'm conscious at this point. The draft has extended longer than we ever thought possible. My Rockies scouting team has been locked in the war room back in Denver for well over two months now, with nothing but greasy burgs from the BK Lounge and the occasional game of Chel to keep them awake. Baseball America rankings have blurred into Baseball Prospectus rankings which have blurred into my dad telling me he heard this dude from the Ottawa Champions has a cannon for an arm.
As I stumble up to the podium to announce the Colorado Rockies selection with the 313th pick in the draft, a list of names runs through my head. Who was it we had decided on? Kris Bryant? No he was way down our list. Matt Stairs? Dude went to Fredericton High School, what a scrub.
I'm blacking out from dehydration as I mumble into the microphone "Francisco Mejia, Catcher, Cleveland Indians" just before I pass out. Then, darkness.
